A Marinette man pleaded no contest to a reduced charge in the June 2024 stabbing that killed 33-year-old Robert Marshall of Green Bay.
Joseph Poore, 40, pleaded no contest June 13 to one count of first-degree reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon, according to court records. He was initially charged with first-degree intentional homicide and armed robbery, both as a party to a crime. The armed robbery charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Shortly after 5 p.m. June 3, 2024, police responded to the 700 block of South Roosevelt Street and found Marshall lying on the ground, according to a criminal complaint. A medical examiner determined Marshall had five stab wounds in his abdomen, one of which went through his lung and struck his heart, likely causing his death.
A witness told police they saw Marshall being attacked by another man inside a car, the complaint said, before Marshall stumbled out of sight and the car drove away. The car was later stopped by police in Peshtigo and officers detained the three occupants: Poore, 33-year-old Aaron Walton of Menominee, Michigan, and an unidentified woman.
Walton was later charged alongside Poore and still faces one first-degree intentional homicide charge and one armed robbery charge. Walton returns to court July 17 for a plea hearing.
The woman told police Poore had suggested robbing Marshall earlier in the day, the complaint said. She and Walton told detectives they did not know Marshall was hurt when he left the car.
Poore is scheduled to return to court Aug. 15 for sentencing. According to his plea agreement, the prosecution and defense will jointly recommend a sentence of 24 years in prison, followed by 20 years of extended supervision. Because judges are not required to follow sentencing stipulations in a plea agreement, Poore could face up to 45 years in prison.
