LANSING — Prosecutors have charged two people with murder in connection with the June 8 fatal shooting of a 58-year-old man.
Ross Coats, 34, of Eaton Rapids, and Nicole Blowers, 32, of Lansing, have each been charged with open murder, carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm and two additional firearm charges. They face up to life in prison if convicted.
They were arraigned on June 11 in 54A District Court, prosecutors said in a news release, and Coats was denied bond. Judge Stacia Buchanan set Blowers’ bond at $70,000 and scheduled court hearings for each for later this month.
Online court records do not list attorneys of record for Coats or Blowers.
The shooting happened about 5:38 p.m. on June 8 in the 3300 block of Bardaville Street, off North Grand River Avenue and east of Waverly Road, police have said. Marvin High Jr., whose name was released by Lansing police on June 9, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In a separate news release following the arraignment on June 11, the Lansing Police Department said Coats and Blowers got into an argument with High over money owed to Blowers. During the argument, Coats fired several gunshots at High before he and Blowers left on a motorcycle, police said in the release.
Police arrested both on June 9 and the next day submitted warrant requests to prosecutors, according to both releases.
