On Wednesday, June 4, the second-year head coach will host a Junior College, Transfer Athletes, and 2025 Graduates Showcase Mega Camp on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.

Other college football programs from Edward Waters University, Gardner-Webb University, Warner University, and the University of West Florida will also attend FAMU football’s Mega Camp.

Camp registration starts at 9:30 a.m., with drills beginning an hour later at 10:30 a.m. Walkups are welcomed.

“I just want to make sure we’re doing our due diligence for Class of 25, junior college, and portal guys,” Colzie told the Tallahassee Democrat.

“You never know who’s out there and who could turn into something later. It’s a big state, it’s a big country. We don’t get a chance to hit everybody. We have a lot of people coming from different parts to try out in front of the coaching staff.”

The Rattlers’ coaching staff wrapped up their recruiting trips two weeks ago, which included football hotbeds like South Florida, South Georgia, Atlanta, Tallahassee, and Kansas for its junior college scene, among other regions.

However, with the Mega Camp, Colzie wants to account for areas FAMU football didn’t visit or prospects who could be underrecruited.

“A guy might come in here and just completely show out. Who knows, right? Maybe we might’ve missed him because he played junior college in New Mexico,” Colzie explained.

“I just think for us, it’s leaving no stone unturned and getting a chance to put some eyes on some guys that we generally might not have been able to. If we missed on a guy and he decides to come out here and show us what we missed, it’s a great opportunity and platform for that young man.”

Colzie expects a fair turnout at Bragg Stadium for his Showcase Mega Camp for junior college, transfer portal entrants, and fresh high school graduates.

“I don’t think people understand how many people want to come to play football at FAMU,” Colzie said. “I get messages every day from across the country, sometimes international, about people trying to come play at Florida A&M.”

Mega Camp participants could leave with an opportunity to extend or begin their college football career with FAMU or the other four teams represented.

If Colzie and the staff find a gem at Wednesday’s showcase, they want to have them on the Rattlers’ roster by June 23, which marks FAMU football’s Summer B session of organized team activities.

“If you want to be here, we’re going to work you out, see what you can do, and decide whether you can be part of our roster,” Colzie said. “So, we want to do it June 4, primarily because if we choose them or want them, it gives them enough time to be a part of us on June 23 when Session B starts.”
