One of Iowa’s top targets in the 2027 class announced a commitment to the program that ousted the Hawkeyes from the NCAA Tournament.
Finley Chastain, a 6-foot guard out of Texas, announced her commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners early Tuesday morning.
The Faith Family Academy standout visited Iowa for the Hawkeyes’ clash against USC on Feb. 2. Iowa upset then-No. 4 USC and JuJu Watkins, 76-69, with a cast of star-studded visitors in attendance.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend,” Chastain told HawkeyeReport after that February visit. “The game on Sunday was electric. One of the best experiences of my life. … I think I had chills the entire time.
“The atmosphere was incredible. I’ve truly never experienced anything like it. It’s special to see a place have that much support and energy from the fans. For me, that’s a game changer. To be able to have the opportunity to play in front of 15,000 fans is special and you can’t find that just anywhere. Not only was the game exciting, but to be able to honor Caitlin after that was just amazing to witness. I’m grateful to have been a part of it.”
While Chastain was certainly impressed with what Iowa had to offer, the Sooners won out in her recruitment.
Chastain is a four-star prospect per ESPN and by 247Sports. 247Sports rates Chastain as the nation’s No. 25 player overall, the No. 2 point guard and the No. 2 player from Texas.
