One woman dead after hit-and-run on the south side of Des Moines

A hit-and-run crash on the south side of Des Moines early Sunday morning left one woman dead and police investigating.

The fatal hit-and-run crash took place at 2 a.m. on May 24, according to a Facebook post by Des Moines Police.

Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to a report of an injured person in the 1000 block of East Railroad Avenue, police said in a statement.

First responders found an adult female deceased in the roadway.

Parizek said that evidence at the scene indicates that she was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or to report the crash, according to the statement.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating this crash. Neither the vehicle nor the driver has been identified. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call 515-283-4811.
