The Southeastern Conference tournament is here, with some of the best college baseball teams gathering before the NCAA Tournament.
Texas baseball is one of the favorites to win it all, having topped the college baseball rankings on more than one occasion. Jim Schlossnagle’s first year in Austin could not have gone much better, winning SEC Coach of the Year and leading the Longhorns to a 42-11 overall record. The return of outfielder Max Belyeu has jolted their offense and they also boast the SEC Freshman of the Year, closer Dylan Volantis.
About a hundred miles east of the Forty Acres, Texas A&M is scrambling to find momentum after a historic fall from their preseason No. 1 ranking. The Aggies have earned a few strong series wins over the Volunteers and the Razorbacks, but they ended the season losing back-to-back series against Missouri and Georgia.
The No. 14 seed Texas A&M began the tournament Tuesday against No. 11 seed Mississippi State, while No. 1 seed Texas will face either No. 8 seed Tennessee or the winner of No. 9 seed Alabama or No. 16 seed Missouri.
