A national sandwich restaurant chain with nearly 50 years of history, and now hundreds of shops across dozens of states, has opened its first Sarasota area location.
Potbelly Sandwich Works is now open at 1635 S. Tamiami Trail, across the street from Sarasota Memorial Hospital and next to Buffalo Wild Wings Go. Founded in 1977 in Chicago, where it remains headquartered, Potbelly has since expanded to several other cities and states, including Florida. While the chain already has multiple locations in the greater Tampa Bay area — including Tampa, St. Pete, Largo, Brandon and Plant City — this is the first in Sarasota-Manatee.
What does Potbelly’s menu offer?
The restaurant serves a slew of sandwiches, including the signature “meaty fan favorite” A Wreck with turkey breast, hickory smoked ham, Angus roast beef, salami and Swiss. Other sandwiches include an Italian, turkey avocado, chicken club, BLTA (BLT with avocado), veggie melt, pizza melt, Mediterranean, meatball, turkey breast, smoked ham, roast beef, grilled chicken, tuna salad, chicken salad and grilled cheese, plus the new Cubano and Sweet Heat Pork BBQ.
The menu also features a variety of salads, soups, mac-and-cheeses, chips and other sides, and cookies, with “pick your pair” combos of sandwich, soup or salad available. For beverages, it offers shakes made with hand-dipped ice cream as well as fountain and bottled drinks.
What other sandwich restaurants have opened in Sarasota-Manatee recently?
Potbelly joins a number of out-of-state sandwich restaurants that have expanded to Sarasota-Manatee in recent years. They include Faicco’s from New York, which opened a second location at the intersection of Beneva Road and Webber Street in Sarasota in 2022; Kelly’s Roast Beef from Massachusetts, which also opened in 2022 in University Town Center and recently opened another location in Parrish’s Creekside Commons plaza; and Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls from New Jersey, which also recently opened a new location in Lakewood Ranch’s Waterside Place.
