Palm Beach Police have taken 10 people into custody following an immigrant landing on the island early on May 9.
Police spokesman Capt. Will Rothrock told the Daily News that “at approximately 3 a.m. we were alerted to a vessel that beached near the Breakers.”
The immigrants were turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, he said. Two of the ten were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The department is still investigating and looking for two more people, Rothrock said.
In an alert sent at 4:22 a.m. May 9, the town said multiple police units were in the area of North Ocean Boulevard and Sunrise Avenue investigating a landing on the beach.
“If you see any suspicious persons in the north end of the island please call 911 or Palm Beach PD immediately at 561-838-5454,” the town said.
The immigrants are of various nationalities, Rothrock said.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
