Iowa football adds transfer OL George Nahas from rival program

Iowa football added another piece to its offensive line on Thursday.

The Hawkeyes grabbed a commitment from Iowa State transfer offensive lineman George Nahas. According to the Des Moines Register’s Tyler Tachman, Nahas joins the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on. Nahas will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive lineman began his collegiate career with the Cyclones as a walk-on. Nahas was ranked as a two-star prospect, as the nation’s 239th interior offensive lineman and as the No. 33 player from Iowa in the 2023 class according to 247Sports.

A product of Dowling Catholic, Nahas earned offers from Army, Fordham and Southern Illinois and drew interest from Kansas out of high school.

Following a pair of seasons at Iowa State, Nahas announced his entrance into the NCAA transfer portal on April 22.

“I would like to start by thanking Coach Clanton, Coach Campbell, JSB and the entire Iowa State coaching staff for a great 2 seasons. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining,” Nahas said as he announced his Iowa State departure.

Nahas’ father, Jim, played baseball at Florida and Iowa before playing professionally in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Nahas becomes the second transfer offensive lineman that the Hawkeyes have brought in this offseason. Iowa also added former Ferris State offensive lineman Bryce George.

The 6-foot-5, 314-pound offensive lineman chose Iowa over offers from USC and Cal. A two-time All-GLIAC selection and a first-team All-American from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association this past season, George helped lead Ferris State to the 2024 Division II national championship with a dominant 49-14 victory over Valdosta State.

During his time at Ferris State, the Bulldogs won three national championships in four years.
