Breece Hall has been a staple in the New York Jets’ backfield in recent years but a suggestion that could change that has been made.
Following the NFL owners meetings, ESPN made note of comments made by Jets head coach Aaron Glenn regarding the running back position. Because of those, the idea of trading Hall was made and it relates to the 2025 NFL draft as well.
ESPN’s idea:
Hall is a gifted player who would attract interest if dangled in trade talks. Perhaps the Jets would consider moving him if Boise State star Ashton Jeanty is available with the seventh pick in the April 24 draft.
The suggestion comes following Glenn referencing the usage of a potential running back by committee approach that could come to the Jets offense next season. Not one where Hall, 25, is the clear No. 1 rusher. While Tanner Engstrand is New York’s offensive coordinator, Glenn assured he’ll have a part in the team’s game plan across the roster, not just on the defense.
“I think, mentally, [Hall] is in a good place, but I would say that we have three running backs on this team that we’re going to utilize as much as possible,” Glenn said.
However, Glenn did add that he believes “every player is going to be happy with the way that we go about this offense, and I think [Hall] is going to be one of them.”
In addition to Hall, the Jets’ backfield has Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Allen specifically saw a decent amount of touches early on last season but once play-calling duties were taken away from New York’s former offensive coordinator Nate Hackett, Allen’s involvement dropped.
Naturally the final piece connected here is Jeanty, a prospect that could be on the Jets’ radar. Jeanty is considered the top running back prospect in the draft. NFL Network’s Maurice Jones-Drew is amongst analysts that rank Jeanty at the top of his list.
