As is the case ahead of every NFL draft, the top selections are always the No. 1 discussed topic ahead of the event. That is no different in 2025.
The New York Jets enter this year’s draft with the No. 7 overall pick in their pocket. The team could go in a variety of ways with it.
Could another offensive tackle be the move there after selecting Olu Fashanu in 2024? What about a playmaker such as a wide receiver or tight end?
Regardless, there are plenty of other picks that will be made as the Jets hold eight total selections as things currently stand.
With those seven other picks in mind, ESPN has named one prospect “match” for every NFL team whose draft stock is outside the first round. For the Jets, it’s LSU tight end Mason Taylor.
Here’s the breakdown on why Taylor and the Jets are a match from ESPN:
Prospect to fill a need outside Round 1: Mason Taylor, TE, LSU. Tight end is arguably the Jets’ biggest need in the draft. If they don’t fill the position in Round 1, Taylor would be a good Day 2 pickup. He is LSU’s career leader in receptions (129) and receiving yards (1,308) for tight ends. Taylor is a smooth route runner who also has strong hands, making him a potential go-to player for Fields.
