Miguel Cabrera has been delegated to a part-time player this year for the Detroit Tigers. However, the legendary hitter continues to rack up hits. With three more on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, that gives Cabrera 3,145 passing Robin Yount for sole possession of 19th on MLB’s all-time hits list. He is now seven hits behind Paul Waner for 18th.
The Tigers have fallen out of contention this year, sitting eight games behind Minnesota in the division, and thirteen games back in the wild card race. Still, fans have supported the team and have flocked to Comerica Park to see a legend of the game for one last time before he retires at the end of the season. Cabrera’s career numbers are staggering, worthy of a first-ballot hall-of-fame nomination. He has a career batting average of .307, 508 homeruns, 620 doubles, and 1,864 RBI. Cabrera is also only one of three players in Major League Baseball history to have over 3,000 hits and 500 home runs along with Hank Aaron and Willy Mays. Not bad company. The Tigers will begin a weekend series in Boston against the Red Sox, Cabrera’s final games at Fenway Park as an active player. Below is MLB’s top 25 hits list.
