New York City has managed to turn the United States of America’s legal system into a Soviet Union of America legal system. First, the Soviet Union had a well-deserved reputation for finding a person to prosecute and then a crime to prosecute him for as New York has for Trump. Love him or hate him, it risks the safety of our entire justice system to vow to “get” someone and then tie our system into knots to do so.
Secondly, on the national level. New York Congresspeople have accused Republicans of bringing cases against Hunter Biden that have exceeded the Statute of Limitations for the alleged crimes. The DA of New York has done exactly that to Donald Trump. Trump mislabeling expenses to hide his relationship with Stormy Daniels it was only a misdemeanor. The clock has run out a long time ago.
Thirdly, the Department of Justice refused to file federal campaign funding violation charges against Trump on the issue. The city of New York has attempted to circumvent the DOJ and that will certainly be a winnable issue for Trump on appeal. So, while women are being punched, beaten, and thrown in front of subway trains and their attackers released, the DA is focused on crimes the Biden DOJ won’t even touch. How does that make a New York woman feel?
Finally, according to Never Trump legal scholars Turley and others, to mandate a defendant to be present at trial is unconstitutional. Not allowing a parent to attend a graduation is mean and unconscionable. It reeks of bias, and also election interference.
When Biden was the candidate and Trump was President, the media and the entire left wing of the nation threw a hissy-fit when Trump or anyone mentioned the Ukraine speech tape. You know, the one where Biden bragged about (illegally) withholding funds from Ukraine until they fired the prosecutor who just happened to be able to prosecute Hunter for alleged financial crimes?
This bias is dangerous to everyone in the USA. Why? Because just yesterday at the Supreme Court, the government revealed that they have never charged a left-wing rioter who destroyed government property or “…disrupted government operations…” with any violation. None, even though courthouse and federal buildings could not be used after riots took place where they were damaged.
Whether you believe January 6 was an insurrection or not, the blatant double standard of not prosecuting ANY of the 2020 rioters, who MURDERED TWENTY-ONE PEOPLE, is dangerous for all of us. Especially with Americans in Dearborn, Michigan shouting “Death to America” in their streets!
