Wisconsin women's basketball's new offensive plan under Robin Pingeton

In Robin Pingeton’s second season, Wisconsin women’s basketball is working to play faster on offense.

According to associate head coach Chris Bracey, the transition attack will be the main focus. This shows how the new staff wants the team to play with its updated roster.

In an interview with Locked On Badgers, Bracey explained that Wisconsin wants to attack before the other team’s defense is set and keep that energy going into its half-court offense.

“Our offensive identity is going to be to play fast,” Bracey said. “Our biggest bucket is going to be the transition attack.”

The coaches want more than just a faster pace

Bracey said the Badgers aim for an offense that links transition plays to half-court actions, instead of waiting for the defense. He also said Wisconsin plans to get more scoring chances near the basket, either by passing inside or driving from the outside to draw defenders and create open shots.

This approach means players will need to make quick decisions and then be okay with making mistakes as they learn. Bracey said the coaches are spending practice time on decision-making instead of just running set plays. The idea is to get them used to being uncomfortable, and the goal is to help players spot opportunities and act on them, even if things are a bit messy at first.

The defense will follow a similar plan. Bracey said the Badgers want to play faster, be more aggressive, and force more turnovers. While these goals don’t guarantee results and the team hasn’t shared its lineup or schedule yet, they give the best idea so far of the style that Pingeton’s staff wants to build.

Details about the roster will come later in the season. For now, the main change is tactical: Wisconsin wants its players to run, make quick decisions, and put more pressure on opponents. It may take time for this new style to stick, but the coaches have set a clear standard.
