Wisconsin’s No. 1 set-up man was the ultimate finisher Friday, Feb. 13.
Sophomore forward Gavin Morrissey, the leading scorer for the Badgers men’s hockey team on the strength of his passing, recorded his first multi-goal game of the season to lead UW to 4-2 victory over Ohio State at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The win was the third straight for Wisconsin, which raised its record to 18-9-2 overall and 11-8 (30 points) in the Big Ten. The outcome marked the first Badgers win at the Schottenstein Center since December 2020.
Morrissey scored what proved to be the game-winner in the sixth minute of the second period to give his team a 3-0 edge. He added his sixth goal of the season during the 16th minute of the third period to give UW a 4-1 advantage.
The performance marked the third two-goal game of his career but his first against a Big Ten opponent. It also marked his third game-winning goal of the season.
The display came on a night when UW scored twice during the first 6 minutes and committed just two penalties.
Seven players scored at least one point for Wisconsin. Freshman Finn Brink had two assists with both coming during the Badgers’ first period surge.
The first of those assists came at the 5-minute 36-second mark of the first period on freshman Grady Deering’s sixth goal of the season. The second went to senior Simon Tassy at the 5:58 mark.
Wisconsin, which is ranked No. 13 in the USCHO poll and No. 12 in the USA Hockey rankings, continues the series at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14.
