Wisconsin football promotes new inside linebackers coach

While the Wisconsin Badgers football team may have struggled defensively during the 2025 season, there was a bright spot at linebacker.

The position group, which was led in part by assistant linebackers coach Tuf Borland, saw true freshmen Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano emerge. The two finished with 61 and 56 tackles, four and 4 1/2 tackles for loss, and four and two sacks, respectively.

On the heels of that season, the program announced on Wednesday that Borland was being promoted to inside linebackers coach. This move was one of many the team made on their coaching staff, along with naming a new wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator.

Borland was the Defensive MVP back in 2020 when Ohio State took down Clemson in the Sugar Bowl. He was a three-time captain with the Buckeyes but has exclusively coached for Wisconsin.

Upon being promoted, a few other moves were made on the coaching staff. Chris Worley takes over as assistant defensive backs coach, Matt Mitchell is now an outside linebackers coach, and Bryan Sanborn was added as a defensive assistant.

It should be noted that Mike Tressel will continue as the team’s defensive coordinator.
