MADISON – Wisconsin men’s basketball has assembled an impressive 2027 recruiting class.
Wauwatosa West guard Jalen Brown became the first top-100 prospect from the state to commit to the Badgers in more than a decade. Greg Gard’s staff then continued to pluck talent from the state of Minnesota, gaining commitments from 7-foot-1 center Jack Thelen and 6-foot-5 wing Baboucarr Ann.
Brown and Ann both are in the top 100 of 247 Sports’ national rankings. Barring a significant change in the rankings, which are far from an exact science, it will be the Badgers’ first class with multiple top-100 recruits in the Gard era.
As for the 2028 class and beyond, UW’s advanced camp and team camp and the NCAA’s June evaluation periods have offered some opportunities to watch the next wave of prospects.
It still is somewhat early in the process for 2028 recruiting. (To use the 2027 class as example, UW did not offer Ann until October of his junior year of high school, and Thelen’s offer did not come until June following his junior year.)
That being said, here are the 2028 recruits who have reported offers from the Badgers so far:
Joey Kohnen
Joey Kohnen, a 6-foot-5 guard from Slinger, received an offer from the Badgers in October. His other offers have included Notre Dame, Nebraska, Iowa State and Iowa. He is the younger brother of Iowa State commit Jack Kohnen.
Kohnen averaged 15.7 points and four rebounds in 2025-26 as he and his brother helped Slinger reach the Division 2 state championship game before falling to Whitefish Bay.
Kevin “KJ” Wilson
Kevin Wilson, a 5-foot-11 guard from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, picked up an offer from the Badgers following an impressive performance at UW’s advanced camp in Madison on June 18. It was his first Big Ten offer. Wilson plays AAU basketball with D1 Minnesota, which also has Ann and Thelen on its rosters.
Cole Kelly
Cole Kelly, a 6-foot-7 prospect from Naperville, Illinois, received an offer from the Badgers on June 24. The next day, he announced an offer from Marquette. He also has reported offers from Illinois, Purdue, Iowa, Creighton, Ohio State, Notre Dame and others.
