Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport is under new management tasked to boost traffic, add nonstop flights and grow revenue at the Brown County-owned airport.
The Brown County Board on July 15 approved a five-year contract with Vantage Group to manage the airport. The county, in essence, eliminated the airport’s three top manager positions, bringing Director Marty Piette’s eight-year tenure in charge to an end.
Austin Straubel airport in recent years has continued to stay afloat and make marginal gains in jet sizes and flight volumes. But it has not been seen key metrics improve while Appleton International Airport, 35 miles south in Greenville, offers a sharp contrast to Green Bay.
Passenger arrivals and departures through the Green Bay airport have recovered to pre-pandemic levels of about 700,000 activities per year, but Appleton International Airport has nearly doubled that in recent years. Frontier Airlines ended service to Green Bay earlier this year, leaving the airport without a leisure-focused carrier while Appleton now offers nonstop flights to more than 20 destinations.
Vantage will need time to evaluate airport operations and find ways to improve operations and service. It also will take awhile to make the case to airlines to expand or begin service out of Titletown. And while they’re doing that work, the Green Bay Press-Gazette wants to hear your thoughts about what you think of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.
We created a six-question poll – seven, if you’ve got additional details to share with us – to get a sense of how frequently travelers use Green Bay’s airport, what they like and don’t like about it, and what they’d like to see change.
