The Marquette men’s basketball team has its first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class.
Marlon Martinez, a 6-foot-5 inch guard who plays for the Academy of Central Florida in Orlando, announced his decision to play for the Golden Eagles on social media on Aug. 7.
Martinez formerly attended Bishop Loughlin High School in New York, and he competed on Puma’s Pro16 AAU circuit for the Rhode Island Elite.
He picked MU over scholarship offers from other schools like Illinois, Mississippi State and Ohio State. Martinez had an official visit to Milwaukee in late July.

Basketball is in Martinez’s blood. His father, Marlon Martinez Sr., was a popular player in Latin America known as “El Rey” who was a member of the Dominican Republic’s national team.
Martinez has carried on the tradition. He had a breakout performance for the Dominican Republic in July at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup championships in July. Several MU coaches made trips to watch his games in Leon, Mexico. Martinez averaged 19 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists over six games while shooting 13 for 27 (48.1%) on 3-pointers.
What Marquette is getting in Marlon Martinez
Martinez has good offensive skills in a big body for a guard. He boasts a 6-10 wingspan and a strong frame.
He has good touch, as evidenced by his 58% shooting on field goals and 23-for-26 (88.5%) marksmanship on free throws in the AmeriCup games.
Martinez also is getting plenty of experience in big games. The Academy of Central Florida plays highly competitive games against prep teams across the nation on The Grind Session.
