TMJ4 reporter Megan Lee is heading home – to our neighbor to the east.
After about three years with WTMJ-TV (Channel 4), Lee will be joining fellow Scripps News Group station, WXYZ-TV in Detroit, TMJ4 announced on Wednesday, April 29. According to Lee’s station bio, she was born and raised in Royal Oak, a suburb outside Detroit.
“The move will take Megan closer to family, and allow her to report for her hometown station,” the announcement from the Milwaukee NBC affiliate said.
“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to live out my dreams of reporting in the city that raised me,” Lee said. “I grew up watching the talented journalists at WXYZ and I’m excited to work alongside them.”
Lee graduated from Central Michigan University in May 2021 with a degree in broadcast and cinematic arts, her TMJ4 bio said. She worked at WKBN/WYTV in Youngstown, Ohio, before joining TMJ4 as a multimedia journalist in July 2023
TMJ4 Editorial Director Nicole Buckley said Lee has been much more than a skilled storyteller, but also a model newsroom citizen who always steps up when it’s needed most, including covering shifts, offering a helping hand without hesitation and “sparking conversations about how to shine a spotlight on important voices.”
“Even on tough days, Megan’s positivity and enthusiasm have been a bright spot in the newsroom,” Buckley said.
In the announcement, Lee lauded the TMJ4 staff for their help and encouragement.
“TMJ4 is a place that fostered my growth as a young reporter and pushed me to get better every single day,” she said.
She also thanked the Milwaukeeans who let her into their homes and trusted her to tell their stories.
Lee’s last day with TMJ4 will be May 27.
Lee made headlines in 2025, when she and her photographer, Dan Selan, were prohibited by Superintendent Deb Kerr from attending and filming the open session of a St. Francis School Board meeting at St. Francis High School in June. After the incident, Attorney Tom Kamenick filed a complaint on behalf of TMJ4 against the district, alleging that the school board violated the state’s open meetings law.
Kerr apologized for the way she handled the situation in a letter to the school district community. A settlement was reached that summer. The district admitted that its actions did not align with the law and committed to ensuring it complies in the future.
