Here’s the full list of best U.S. cities for creatives, according to the Squarespace report.

How the study was conducted and scored

The study shows Milwaukee has among the highest concentrations of performance venues. The total was gathered by counting each concert venue, comedy club independent theater, museum, gallery, live music space, bookstore and cultural institution.

Any bar that offers live music or open mics was counted as a “performance venue,” likely boosting Milwaukee’s score. The number was adjusted for population, giving Milwaukee about 97 venues for every 100,000 residents.

In culinary innovation, Milwaukee scored 72 out of 100 possible points, based on a count of James Beard nominees and number of independent restaurants. The 30-plus recurring craft fairs in Milwaukee also helped its ranking.
