FOND DU LAC – An ax attack left a 38-year-old Fond du Lac woman with life-threatening injuries Sunday, June 22, according to Fond du Lac Police Department Chief Aaron Goldstein.
Officers and Fond du Lac Fire Rescue personnel responded around 2:38 p.m. to a residence on East Merrill Avenue after the woman called 911 reporting the attack. She was actively bleeding and the suspect had fled the scene.

After finding her with multiple serious lacerations to her head, extremities and back, first responders rendered life-saving care. Fire Rescue transported her by ambulance to SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital, and from there, she was airlifted to Theda Medical Center in Neenah for extensive surgery.
As of Sunday evening, she was reported to be in stable condition.
In the investigation that followed, officers identified the suspect as a 34-year-old man. His vehicle was located near Germantown at about 7 p.m., and after a brief pursuit, he was taken into custody and transported to Froedtert Hospital for medical evaluation.
The department continues to investigate the incident and gather evidence. Detectives will work with the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office to file charges.
This incident remains under active investigation. Charges are forthcoming as FDLPD detectives continue to gather evidence and work with the District Attorney’s Office.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Germantown Police Department and Fond du Lac County Communications Center assisted in tracking down the suspect.
