Alex Kirchner, a Wisconsin native and University of Wisconsin-Madison grad, is Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin’s new chief meteorologist.
Kirchner spent the past 10-plus years as chief meteorologist at WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois. Before that, he was a meteorologist at WXOW-TV in La Crosse from 2010-’14, and at KCWY-TV in Casper, Wyoming, from 2008-’10.
At Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin, Kirchner will handle evening weather coverage Sundays through Thursdays on “Your Evening News on Spectrum News 1.” He started his Spectrum gig July 28.
JD Rudd, who was chief meteorologist when Spectrum News 1 launched in Milwaukee in 2018, left the cable news outlet in October 2024. He has been freelancing since, including some stints at WDJT-TV (Channel 58).
Spectrum News 1 is available on Spectrum cable systems at, appropriately, Channel 1. It’s also available via the Spectrum News app for Spectrum cable and internet subscribers.
