The southern part of the bay of Green Bay will reopen to commercial vessel traffic starting at 8 a.m. Monday, March 16, the U.S. Coast Guard announced in a March 13 news release.

That part of the bay was closed to commercial traffic by the Coast Guard starting at noon Feb. 1, a time when the bay was iced over, to minimize risks to those participating in ice fishing and other winter recreational activities on the bay. Along with allowing commercial traffic to resume, the reopening also allows icebreaking operations to resume if needed, the news release said.
The affected part of the bay is southwest of a line extending west from Sherwood Point Lighthouse in Sturgeon Bay to Peshtigo Reef Lighthouse off the shore of Marinette County.
