Social media reacts to Wisconsin hockey's national championship loss

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s hockey team failed in its bid for a seventh national championship.

The team’s 2-1 loss to Denver likely will sit with coach Mike Hastings for some time.

In his two national championship games against the Pioneers, Hastings’ team has outscored Denver 2-0 in the first and second periods. In the third period, his team has been outscored 7-0.

Wisconsin enjoyed an early 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from freshman Vasily Zelenov. The Badgers were clearly the better team for the first 45 minutes, but Denver scored a pair of third-period goals that proved the difference makers.

As expected, fans were left stunned and heartbroken by the defeat. Wisconsin’s men’s team had a chance to replicate the success of the women’s program. However, making it this far was a huge success considering this team didn’t make the tournament last season.

Nevertheless, Wisconsin fans took to social media to share their reactions after the heartbreaking loss.
