Riverside Ballroom benefit to help The Glam Band's Dennis Peters with medical costs for cancer

The Glam Band lead singer Dennis Peters will be the beneficiary of an event hosted by On Stage 4 Cancer.

The nonprofit group will present Serenades 4 Supper on July 31 at the Riverside Ballroom in Green Bay. The evening begins at 6 p.m. and includes dinner, music by a variety acts, a wine pull, a live art display and raffles.

Proceeds will help Peters, who announced in March he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer. Performing is Peters’ sole form of income, and medical costs have begun to eat away at his savings, according to a news release from On Stage 4 Cancer.

Organizers have branded the fundraising efforts as “Dennis Peters’ Posse.”

“Our organization exists solely to support individuals like Dennis, who are not just surviving but thriving with cancer,” Kim Shefchik, OS4C board president, said in a statement. “We understand the burden medical costs can present, especially for musicians and other artists — and we’re here to support them financially when they need it most.”

OS4C aims to help members of the northeastern Wisconsin gig economy, including those working in the music industry, whose cancer diagnosis limits their ability to perform and create music and are not covered by traditional health benefits.

Last year’s inaugural event, Audrey’s Angels at The Weidner, surpassed its goal of raising $50,000 in support of Audrey Nowak, a local musician and educator diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2023.

Tickets for Serenades 4 Supper are $62.50 per person or $500 for a table of eight. Livestream tickets are $20.

Tickets are on sale through onstage4cancer.org. Donations can also be made through the website.

Peters, who goes by Dennis Lee Roth in the ’80s-loving Glam Band, was named Male Vocalist of the Year for the second year in a row at the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Awards in May. The band picked up seven awards in all, including Tribute Band/Act of the Year and Performer of the Year.

In a social media post in April, the popular group announced it would continue with its busy schedule in Green Bay, the Fox Valley and elsewhere in Wisconsin as Peters undergoes treatment. It read in part:

“Our summer schedule will once again take us across the state, and it is his wish that we continue moving forward as he powers through to the best of his abilities. We will be here to support him every step of the way and know that you all will be too. Going forward, you might hear someone else singing one of his trademark songs but rest assured that Dennis will be with us as much as his body allows him to be. Music is the best therapy available!”
