Voters across central Wisconsin went to the polls Aug. 11 to help decide which candidates will represent their parties for state, local and national offices in the fall general election.
The candidates who received the most votes in their districts will appear as their party’s nominee on the Nov. 3 ballot.
USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin tracked these contested races in the Wausau and Marshfield areas for the Wisconsin State Legislature and the U.S. House.
Wisconsin State Legislature
Wisconsin state senators are elected to four-year terms. Assembly representatives are elected to two-year terms.
Foster, 72, previously wrote in a response to USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin that he is running for office in support of public education and rural revitalization.
“I have the social and financial education that informs me of competing interests, the background of a former social worker, a farmer and a business leader to view issues from various perspectives, and the drive to see challenges through to accomplishment,” Foster wrote prior to the election.
U.S. House
Congressional representatives are elected to two-year terms. Current 7th Congressional District Rep. Tom Tiffany is seeking election to the office of governor.
Clark, 67, is a retired forester who previously served three terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2009-2015 in south central Wisconsin districts.
“Whether it’s our public lands, good schools, clean air and water, or assuring health care for Wisconsin citizens, what happens in Washington affects all of us here in Northern Wisconsin. Now more than ever, people across the political spectrum want our elected representatives to represent ALL of us, not the billionaires and elites whose influence captures politicians of both parties,” Clark wrote in a response to USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin prior to the election.
Alfonso, 26, is a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate and former podcast producer.
“I am humbled to receive the Republican nomination to represent Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District and grateful to every voter who put their trust in me,” Alfonso said in a statement after he was declared the winner of the race. “In Congress, I will work with President Trump to make his tax cuts permanent, lower costs for Wisconsin families, and fight back against the Democrats’ out-of-touch agenda.”
