RIB LAKE − A 49-year-old Ogema woman is dead and a 49-year-old Ogema man is in custody following a one-vehicle crash Oct. 21.
At 2:03 a.m. Oct. 21, a caller reported a one-vehicle rollover on Taylor County C, near Wood Lake Avenue, in the Taylor County town of Rib Lake, about 55 miles north of Marshfield, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office.
A sport utility vehicle was going south on Taylor County C when it veered off the road, entered the west ditch and hit two trees, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 49-year-old male driver received medical attention but had no serious injuries.
Emergency personnel had to remove Sharon M. Kaplon, who was a passenger, from the SUV, according to the sheriff’s office. Rib Lake Ambulance transported Kaplon to Aspirus Medford Hospital. A helicopter subsequently transported her to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, but she died hours later, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies arrested the driver of the SUV on suspicion of homicide by drunken driving, according to the sheriff’s office. He is in the Taylor County Jail pending a $200,000 cash bail.
The Marshfield News-Herald is not naming the man’s name because charges had not yet been filed Oct. 21.
