Pewaukee man charged with drunken driving homicide in July death of Milwaukee 62-year-old

A Pewaukee man was charged with drunken driving leading to a homicide in the July death of a 62-year-old man walking in an intersection on Milwaukee’s east side.

Roland Kuenn, 59, faces two felony counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle related to the July 9 car crash that killed Gregory Skaar. Prosecutors say Kuehn drove through the intersection of East Ogden Avenue and North Astor Street and struck Skaar, who later died at a hospital.

At the time of the crash, Kuenn told he officers he had stopped at the stop sign, before pulling forward and striking Skaar. However, a witness and video footage showed Kuenn did not stop at the stop sign, according to the criminal complaint.

Police reviewed video which showed Kuenn “slow down only slightly and briefly” before he accelerated and struck Skaar, according to the complaint.

Kuenn told officers he had been drinking at Brady Street bars earlier in the day, according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators estimated Kuenn’s blood alcohol content level to be between 0.102% and 0.138% at the time of the crash. His blood sample was taken about two and a half hours after the crash and, at that time, it was at 0.079%.

Kuenn was previously cited in 1998 for drunken driving in Waukesha County, according to the criminal complaint.

Kuenn’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 15.
