Things have been rough for the Spartans lately, and Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith knows it’s not about to get any easier this week against top five Indiana.
Smith met with the local media on Monday during his weekly press conference, where two of the more notable items discussed were the Spartans’ upcoming opponent Indiana and Smith’s job security amid the team’s current three-game losing streak.
Smith said Indiana “is one of the best teams in the country” and stated the Spartans have to be better this week to pull off what would be a massive upset. Michigan State is currently listed as a near four-touchdown underdog in this matchup at Indiana on Saturday.
As far as his job security and the Spartans’ recent struggles, Smith said he understands the fans’ desire for immediate gratification and believes the team took a step in the right direction on Sunday.
“We took a deep, deep look at the team,” Smith said. “Lots of discussion about accountability, coaches included. Great, healthy day. Guys owning up, talking about it. We switched it up, had the offense watch film as a unit, not in groups.”
