Oshkosh 'No Kings' protest against Trump's military parade planned for Opera House Square

OSHKOSH – A local group of protesters is expected to voice disapproval of the Trump administration’s planned multimillion-dollar military parade June 14 as part of a No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance.

According to an event flier, protesters will take to the streets around Opera House Square, 315 N. Main St., from noon to 3 p.m. for what is being described as a “commitment to nonviolent action.”

“NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies,” said organizers in the event flier.

“We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts.”

The protests are expected to be the biggest one-day anti-Trump administration rally, with more than 100 advocacy groups planning local rallies across 50 states according to Axios.

The protests will coincide with the Trump administration’s planned military parade in Washington, D.C.

The Nationwide Day of Defiance will coincide with a planned multimillion-dollar military parade in Washington, D.C., intended to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary with a display of thousands of soldiers, tanks and artillery.

It also concurs with the president’s 79th birthday.

Trump posted a video address about the parade, saying it will be “one like you’ve never seen before” as the celebration is set to feature flyovers and musical celebrations.

But local organizers of the rally contend “the flag doesn’t belong to Donald Trump,” adding they will make history instead of watching history happen.

The No Kings rally won’t be the first anti-Trump protest to make its way to Oshkosh, with the “Not My Presidents Day” demonstration also being held in February at Opera House Square Park.

The movement was initially spawned from an earlier set of 50501 protests that mobilized 50 protests in 50 states on Feb. 5.

A second wave of demonstrations then swept across the country under the theme “Not My Presidents Day.”

Around 70 community members and advocates held aloft several pro-immigration, LGBTQ and abortion signs in Opera House Square Park as part of peaceful opposition to a number of executive orders and actions taken by the Trump administration.
