A 65-year-old New Berlin man died April 30 after he was struck by a vehicle on state Highway 20 and Townline Road near East Troy, resulting in the arrest of the driver.
The victim, a pedestrian who was not named by authorities, had been found unresponsive in the middle of the road at the intersection at about 9:50 a.m. After unsuccessful life-saving measures by the East Troy Fire Department, the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced him deceased at the scene, according to a Walworth County Sheriff’s Office news release.
After a preliminary investigation, a 50-year-old Norman, Oklahoma, man who was the driver of the vehicle was arrested for homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle. As of the morning of May 1, he has not been formally charged, according to online court records.
East Troy police, who also responded to the incident, said the driver returned to the scene of the accident and waited until rescue vehicles arrived.
The fatality technically occurred in the Town of Troy, at the western edge of the Village of East Troy.
