A new restaurant is in the works for the former Pier 106 space on the Milwaukee River, along with an adjacent event hall in the former Brunch space.
In the Pier 106 space, new owner Jamilah Monroe is planning to open JoSa’ on the River, serving American fusion in an upscale environment.
Monroe said the menu was not finalized yet, but she wants to serve dishes like wings and jerk chicken, and drinks like martinis and Cosmopolitans.
“I always wanted to own a restaurant because I have a passion for cooking and I just really enjoy getting people together,” she said.
Monroe plans to serve lunch, bringing a new option for downtown office workers during the week, along with daily dinner service and brunch on weekends. Dining will be available on the riverside patio during warm-weather months.
The event space, Riverwalk Event Center, will be available for wedding receptions, corporate events and other rental hall needs.
Monroe is in the process of getting food, liquor and entertainment licenses. She hopes to open by Labor Day.
“It’d be awesome if I can get the patio open to enjoy this year,” she said.
Both Pier 106 and Brunch were in the space until 2019 when flooding in the basement forced both businesses to close. Pier 106 never reopened and Brunch moved to 714 N. Milwaukee St.
Monroe said the issue that caused the flooding has been fixed.
Prior to Pier 106 opening in 2016, the space was home to Port of Call, which had opened in 2010.
JoSa’ on the River will bring life back to one of the handful of RiverWalk restaurant spaces that have shuttered in the last decade , as spaces like Rock Bottom Brewery, Milwaukee Ale House and John Hawks Pub remain closed.
