UPDATE: Sept. 20 (10:55 a.m.): Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell said pregame that quarterback Billy Edwards is returning to the lineup for the Badgers’ Week 4 game vs Maryland
Wisconsin starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. will be a game-time decision for the Badgers’ Week 4 contest against Maryland on Saturday, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Edwards has been on the sideline since he exited Wisconsin’s Week 1 win over Miami (Ohio) in the second quarter with a knee injury. Backup Danny O’Neil has filled in during his absence, leading the team to a Week 2 win over Middle Tennessee and a Week 3 loss at Alabama.
Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell did not give a definitive update on the status of either Edwards or center Jake Renfro when meeting with the media on Monday. Nakos’ report is a major update in that regard. As has appeared to be the case all week, the quarterback’s status will be decided in the hours leading up to game time.
The Badgers (2-1) and Terrapins (3-0) are scheduled to kick off at noon ET, 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. Check back 90 minutes before the game when Edwards’ status is finalized.
UPDATE (Sept. 19, 7 a.m.): Nakos followed his report by noting Edwards’ status “could be trending in the right direction for Wisconsin.”
