Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur doesn’t believe any of the injuries are of long-term concern, but receiver Matthew Golden and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper are among a group of players dealing with new injuries coming out of the team’s Family Night practice.
Golden, Cooper, receiver Jayden Reed and tight end Josh Whyle are not practicing on Sunday due to new injuries. Veteran linebacker Zaire Franklin is an excused absence after attending Hall of Fame ceremonies — he was teammates with Adam Vinateri — on Saturday.
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Golden has a toe injury, Cooper has a foot injury, Reed has an ankle injury and Whyle has a neck injury.
“I don’t think long term,” LaFleur said of the new injuries before Sunday’s practice.
Even if the injuries are not long term concerns, Golden, Cooper, Reed and Whyle could miss more practice time and are probably unlikely to play in the preseason opener on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.
Some good news: rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse and rookie defensive lineman Chris McClellan were both practicing on Sunday after exiting Family Night’s practice.
The Packers also waived injured cornerback Marlon Jones to make room for new receiver Kisean Johnson, who was signed to address the depth issue at receiver with Golden and Reed out.
