Marquette at Georgetown: Damarius Owens having strong game in first start

WASHINGTON – The Marquette men’s basketball team has two more chances to notch its first road victory of the season.

Maybe the best chance for the Golden Eagles (9-18, 4-12 Big East) comes against Georgetown (13-14, 5-11) at 6 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Capital One Arena.

The cavernous building that is also home to the NBA’s Washington Wizards is not very intimidating during home games for Georgetown, with only 4,456 fans attending the last home game against Butler.

MU’s last road victory happened to come at Capital One Arena on March 1 last season. The Golden Eagles did win a game in last season’s Big East tournament on a neutral court at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Nigel James and Damarius Owens lead way in first half

Nigel James Jr. had 12 points and Damarius Owens added 10 as MU took a 40-35 lead into the locker room.

Owens made his first career start in place of an injured Royce Parham. Owens’ career high is 15 against the Hoyas in the first matchup.

Royce Parham hurts back in warmups

Sophomore forward Royce Parham was a late scratch after hurting his back in the pregame warmups.

Fellow sophomore Damarius Owens made his first career start.

Parham was deemed questionable by MU, but he gingerly walked back to the locker room a few minutes in the game.

Marquette’s probable starters

Guards: Nigel James Jr., Chase Ross, Adrien Stevens

Forwards: Royce Parham, Ben Gold

Marquette at Georgetown prediction

This is it. The elusive road win for MU has to come in this one, right? All the close calls recently will pay off when the freshman backcourt of Nigel James Jr. and Adrien Stevens – a native of the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area – combine for a big game and taste what it’s like to win away from home.

Prediction: MU 75, Georgetown 68
