Several Fox Valley-area fire departments responded to a large fire at Ahlstrom-Munksjo Thilmany Mill in Kaukauna the afternoon of May 16.
Fire engines were still on scene as of 3:45 p.m., according to Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire & Rescue. The department said it was called to bring an engine to assist at approximately 2:20 p.m., but the primary responding department is the City of Kaukauna Fire Department.
The City of Kaukauna Department was not immediately available for comment. Neither were Combined Locks Fire Department, which was also at the scene.
Comments on Facebook scanner pages indicated people could see the smoke from neighboring towns.
Ahlstrom-Munksjo Thilmany Mill is an approximately 143-year-old paper mill.
The mill had a boiler room explosion in 2022 that killed one worker. A 2014 explosion caused $100,000 in damages and gave one worker mior injuries.
