A popular empanada restaurant on Milwaukee’s east side is opening its second location in the Milwaukee Public Market.
La Masa Empanada Bar, 1300 E. Brady St., is known for its scratch-made, oven-baked, Argentinian-style empanadas with traditional fillings like Argentine beef with raisins, olives and hard-boiled egg; as well as creative options like grilled chicken pesto and dessert options like banana Nutella empanadas.

“In Argentinian cities, empanadas can be found on nearly every corner,” Megan Todd, co-owner of La Masa, said in a news release. “That’s exactly why we’re so excited to join the Milwaukee Public Market. The Market has that same energy, where people can grab a quality La Masa handheld to enjoy on the go or while exploring the Third Ward with family and friends.”
Todd and her brother Brad opened La Masa’s original Brady Street location in 2015. Aside from empanadas, the restaurant also serves salads, snacks like queso dip and spicy stuffed peppers, and sandwiches like its pork carnitas sandwich.
Its Public Market location will open “in the coming months,” according to the news release. It will be located near the main stairwell, alongside vendors Thief Wine and Freese’s Candy Shoppe.
“Our goal has always been to showcase the very best Milwaukee has to offer,” Paul Schwartz, executive director of the Milwaukee Public Market and Business Improvement District #2, said in the news release. “When we began the search for our next vendor, we started by asking what the community wanted to see. La Masa has earned a reputation for outstanding food, a warm and hospitable guest experience, and a menu that appeals to a wide range of palates and dietary preferences. They deliver exactly the kind of experience and offerings our customers are asking for.”
La Masa will be the 19th vendor at the Milwaukee Public Market, which was recently voted as the top public market in the nation by USA TODAY readers.
