The Enquirer took top honors in Ohio’s four journalism contests evaluating work from 2024.
The Enquirer was named best newspaper and best website in the 2025 Excellence in Journalism contest by the Greater Cincinnati Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The Press Club of Cleveland also named The Enquirer best daily newspaper in Ohio; judges said “consistent quality of writing, punchy topics make this a winner.”
An investigation by Dan Horn and Amber Hunt into use of police informants won the Cincinnati SPJ’s Gerald White Memorial Award, placed second in the A-Mark Prize for Investigative Journalism announced earlier this year by the Press Club of Cleveland and placed second in the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors annual contest.
Elizabeth B. Kim’s stories and engagement about a mobile phone app designed to assess suicide risk in youth was recognized with the organization’s Camilla Warrick Award, which “honors journalists in any medium who use their professional role to make an impact on people in the community.”
Regional politics reporter Erin Glynn was named Ohio’s rising star newspaper journalist by the Ohio APME.
“While our readers remain the ultimate judges of our work, it’s extremely gratifying to be honored by our peers in this way,” said Beryl Love, executive editor of The Enquirer. “Our community is fortunate to have such dedicated and talented journalists working on its behalf.”
Other top prizes from the Cincinnati SPJ contest:
In the Ohio SPJ contest, The Enquirer placed in 17 categories and reporter Patricia Gallagher Newberry was named best reporter in Ohio.
