Key Grand Chute on-ramp to Interstate 41 to close April 27

It is now a little trickier to get out of the Fox River Mall area of Grand Chute.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation on April 27 closed the northbound on-ramp from Wisconsin Avenue to Interstate 41.

This is in addition to ongoing lane closures on Wisconsin Avenue under the interstate, and resurfacing work on Wisconsin from Casaloma Drive to North Badger Avenue.

The ramp, and the lanes under I-41, will be closed until fall.

Why is the on-ramp to Interstate 41 from Wisconsin Avenue closed?

When the ramp reopens, it will be part of an auxiliary lane between Wisconsin Avenue and Northland Avenue.

The work is part of the I-41 expansion project, which will continue through 2030 and reconstruct 23 miles of the interstate between Grand Chute and De Pere.

Upgrades include transforming the mainline from four lanes to six, adding auxiliary and collector-distributor lanes, reconstruction of a number of interchanges, overpasses and underpasses and myriad other quality-of-life improvements.

How many drivers will these closures affect?

According to WisDOT traffic data, 6,500 drivers use the ramp every day. Meanwhile, about 29,900 drivers use segments of Wisconsin Avenue around the interchange each day.

What other closures are planned on and around Interstate 41?

Outagamie County U, were it crosses E. Frontage Road/French Road in Wrightstown also closed on April 27, and will remain closed through mid-summer.

The interstate mainline construction in Grand Chute began in early 2025 and will continue through this fall, between Wisconsin Avenue and Lynndale Drive. The mainline is also under construction through fall 2027 between Outagamie County JJ and Miners Way on the east side of the Fox Cities.

Gillett Street’s underpass will also see short-term closures throughout the year, with roadway reconstruction starting in 2027.
