Former Menomonee Falls boys basketball superstar and four-year North Carolina guard Seth Trimble committed to the University of Louisville on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The news of Trimble’s transfer comes on the back of a Colorado district court ruling that gave high schoolers who were members of the 2022 class a fifth season of college eligibility. The NCAA has fought back against that ruling, meaning Trimble and the rest of the players from his class who were granted eligibility will need the U.S Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit to uphold the injunction, which would maintain Trimble’s eligibility to play at Louisville for the 2026-27 season.
Trimble entered the transfer portal this past spring after four seasons at North Carolina where he scored 971 total points, grabbed 361 rebounds and dished out 168 assists in 126 career games with 45 starts for the Tar Heels, including a 30-point outing against his new school on Feb. 23 in a 77-74 UNC win. He averaged a career-high 14 points per game this past season, including one of the plays of the entire 2025-26 college basketball season with his buzzer-beating 3-pointer over hated rival Duke on Feb. 7.
Trimble looks to join a roster that has had a massive offseason portal overhaul, landing some of the biggest names available, including former Kansas center Flory Bidunga and former Oregon guard Jackson Shelstad. The addition of Trimble could help put Louisville over the top in the Athletic Coast Conference title chase among the likes of Duke, Virginia, Miami (Florida) and North Carolina, while also making the Cardinals a dangerous team come March.
The former Wisconsin Mr. Basketball award winner in 2022 played in five games for the Washington Wizards in the Las Vegas Summer League this past July, averaging just under 11 points per contest. He was eligible to return to college because he did not sign a contract with an NBA organization.
Trimble told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that a potential “logjam” on North Carolina’s current roster made it difficult for a return to Chapel Hill, hence the move into the portal.
