Road America shifts on the 2027 IndyCar schedule

Road America will land later on the NTT IndyCar Series calendar in 2027 than it has in recent years.

The XPEL Grand Prix is set for June 24-27 at the road course outside Elkhart Lake, the track announced Aug. 14.

The race at Road America had coincided with Father’s Day weekend four times since the COVID-adjusted 2020 season, with the other two in that span falling a week earlier.

IndyCar announced “phase one” of its 2027 schedule – the first eight races – on Aug. 13 and said it would announce the rest at a later date.

What remains to be seen is whether IndyCar slips another race between Detroit on June 6 and Road America. The other option would be for the schedule to include two weekends off after a four-week stretch consisting of the Indianapolis road course, Indianapolis 500 qualifying, the Indy 500 itself and the Detroit street race.

The other Wisconsin stop on the IndyCar schedule has been at the Milwaukee Mile in late August. This year that’s Aug. 28-30, two weeks after the conclusion of the Wisconsin State Fair and the weekend before Labor Day. No announcements have been made regarding the future.

Road America has been a part of the series since 2016 and ran at the end of June its first four years. It hosted a July doubleheader weekend as part of a shortened 2020 season.
