Thunderstorms likely to finish off the work week will give way to sunny weather over the weekend in the Milwaukee area.
There’s a chance of storms in the late afternoon of June 26 on an otherwise sunny day. There may be some fog along the lakeshore, with temperatures cooler than in western parts of Milwaukee County, which could get into the high 80s, Milwaukee-Sullivan National Weather Service meteorologist Cameron Miller said.
In the evening, clouds will move into the area and bring expected showers and thunderstorms with them.
“Most of the activity, the severe activity, is going to be west of Milwaukee,” Miller said.
That system could stick around into June 27, making for the prospect of thunderstorms before 10 a.m. and showers into early afternoon before the sun peeks out through the clouds.
The sunshine will fully return June 28, though, making for what looks to be a beautiful Saturday, with a high around 77 and calm winds.
But the temperatures will climb up from there.
While the temps shouldn’t rise as high as they did last weekend, there is a projected high of 89 June 29 with a higher dew point and heat indices close to 100.
“It’s a one-day heat wave, basically,” Miller said.
Miller said the NWS is starting to look at whether or not to issue a heat advisory for Sunday, which it will do if the heat indices eclipse 100.
Later in the evening, a front with a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms will bring the temperatures back down to a high in the 80s through June 30.
