Cubs 5, Brewers 1: A bad third inning for Freddy Peralta

A National League Central Division sweep is within sight, as the Milwaukee Brewers seek to make it three straight over the Chicago Cubs at American Family Field on Wednesday afternoon, July 30.

Right-hander Freddy Peralta (12-4, 2.81) starts for the Brewers, while left-hander Shota Imanaga (7-4, 3.12) counters for the Cubs.

Cubs go back in front

A one-out single by Kyle Tucker in the third was followed by a Seiya Suzuki walk, then Pete Crow-Armstrong smoked a ball just out of the reach of a diving Brice Turang to score Tucker.

Suzuki, who ended up at third with Armstrong-Crow at second, was thrown out at home trying to score on a chopper to Andrew Vaughn at first.

Peralta then walked Nico Hoerner to load the bases, which ended up being a very bad move with rookie Moisés Ballesteros doubling into the gap in left-center to empty them and make it a 5-1 game.

Teams trade homers

Michael Busch ambushed Peralta, taking his first offering of the day out to right for a quick 1-0 Cubs lead.

Chicago got a couple runners on base after that, but Peralta worked his way out of the jam having allowed the lone run. He also struck out a pair, allowing him to move past Teddy Higuera and into third place in franchise history with 1,082.

William Contreras then got his battery mate’s back in the bottom of the frame, sending a two-out solo homer out to left in a 1-2 count to tie it up.

It was the first time since June 14 Contreras had gone deep.
