The Wisconsin Conservation Congress invites Wisconsin residents to submit proposed resolutions for the 2027 Spring Hearings.
The WCC is an independent organization of residents that advises the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on how to responsibly manage Wisconsin’s natural resources.
Each year, Wisconsin residents may submit ideas as resolutions to the WCC. The online submission process opened Aug. 1.
Resolutions must meet the following criteria:
An individual resident may submit no more than two resolutions per year. Those interested in submitting a resolution are encouraged to contact the resolution review committee or their WCC county chair for guidance.
Review committee contact information and additional tips on preparing a resolution are available on the WCC and DNR Spring Hearings webpage.
Resolutions will be accepted until midnight Monday, Feb. 8, 2027. Once the submission period closes, a committee of WCC delegates will review the resolutions to ensure they meet the criteria for inclusion.

Wisconsin DNR releases 2026 fall hunting regulations and forecasts
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources released its fall 2026-spring 2027 hunting regulations and 2026 fall forecast series.
Together, the resources include much of the information hunters need to participate in hunting seasons for game species. The fall forecasts also include hunting and trapping outlooks for a variety of popular game species.
New this year, the DNR published an online version of the hunting regulations, including a drop-down filter to help people find information faster.
The online version mirrors the print regulations, so hunters familiar with the print version should be able to transition easily. The print version will be available at DNR service centers in the coming weeks.
The fall forecasts outline what hunters and trappers across the state can expect while pursuing their favorite game species. In addition to information about specific game species, they include reminders about public land access opportunities, game registration requirements and season dates.
Although the forecasts are intended to give predictions for the upcoming hunting and trapping seasons, they are based on a thorough analysis of available species data. Those sources include federal and local species surveys, DNR research findings, weather patterns, and information the DNR receives from advisory committees and staff.

Donated deer antlers help Leader Dogs for the Blind puppies
Challenge The Outdoors recently held its annual appreciation banquet for members and landowners who open their farms for the annual deer hunt in October.
I had a nice talk with Deb Delie, the Leader Dogs for the Blind puppy raiser for whom I collect deer antlers. Deb told me readers of this column come through each year for her. The antlers collected this past year made 75 chew toys for puppies.
Deer and elk antlers are used because they do not splinter when puppies chew them. Antler pieces are shared with puppy raisers throughout the Midwest.
I collect antlers all year for Deb. If you are cleaning out a garage and find antlers, do not toss them. Antlers of any age can be used.

Signs of fall arrive as Wisconsin summer moves quickly
Time sure has a way of moving rapidly as we go through our daily lives.
Summer started about six weeks ago, but as Mary and I took a ride to Wilfert’s for fresh vegetables, she pointed out the third-crop hay in rows in the fields and the winter wheat that already has been combined.
Molting season also is over, as the geese in our area have grown new flight feathers and are back in the air. Football practice has begun for high school and professional teams, and before you know it, the opener will be here.
It is that special day deer hunters look forward to in mid- to late November.
