Manitowoc County Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep set for May 15-16
Manitowoc County will host its 2026 Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep at the County Highway Shop, 3500 State 310, Manitowoc.
Households can drop off hazardous chemicals from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 16. Farms and qualifying businesses are scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Friday, May 15; pre-register by May 8 for truck-bed or trailer loads (call 920-683-4333).
Accepted items include pesticides, cleaners, oil and lead-based paints, automotive chemicals and mercury; latex paint is not accepted.
Residents can also use the Brown County Hazardous Waste Facility free throughout 2026.
Plant a Row for the Hungry: Manitowoc gardeners urged to donate extra produce
Rising food prices are putting more pressure on Manitowoc County families, local organizers say. More than 7,500 residents (9.3%) use FoodShare, and about 43% of county students receive free or reduced-price meals.
The Plant a Row for the Hungry project asks gardeners to grow an extra row to donate to pantries such as Salvation Army, Peter’s Pantry, Two Rivers Ecumenical Pantry, Grow It Forward or United Ministries.
Most pantries gladly accept homegrown vegetables, but it’s important to drop them off at a time they can be distributed promptly. People are encouraged to ask the pantry manager about how to contribute.
Manitowoc food pantries have also been collaborating to purchase large quantities at wholesale prices.
No garden? Try container herbs. No time? A $9 gift can buy a 50-pound bag of potatoes or onions; $20 can buy carrots. Find resources online at https://www.doinggoodtogether.org/projects/plant-a-row.

Camp Wawbeek, part of Easterseals Wisconsin, offers camping experiences for disabled children and young adults at its Wisconsin Dells site.
The club said the gift supports efforts to help young people build a strong foundation for success.
