Two boys killed in Archer County ATV accident

Two youths were killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Archer County on Saturday, according to the Texas Department of Public safety.

The DPS said in a media release that the incident happened at 7:30 p.m. on the Bridwell Ranch.

The DPS account said a preliminary investigation revealed the Can-Am ATV was occupied by four minors and was traveling through an open pasture.

“The driver lost control of the ATV, causing it to roll on its right side,” the DPS said.

The driver of the ATV, a 12-year-old boy from Windthorst, was pronounced dead at the scene, the DPS said. A 13-year-old male passenger from Archer City was taken to United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls where he died from injuries.

Two 13-year-old boys also from Archer City who were riding in the ATV were not injured, the DPS said.

The DPS media release did not include the names. The agency has a policy of not releasing the names of minors involved in crashes.

Several area law enforcement agencies offered condolences on their social media pages Monday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with these families, everyone who knew and loved these kids, and especially the young people struggling to understand such a heartbreaking loss,” the Archer County Sheriff’s Office posted on the agency’s Facebook page Sunday.
