What to know for 2026

Miller begins its first season under head coach David McHugh, who takes over after one season at Bishop. McHugh replaces Justen Evans, who helped turn the Bucs into one of the Coastal Bend’s top programs during a tenure that lasted nearly a decade. Miller is also back in Class 4A for the first time in several seasons and will compete for a district title alongside Port Lavaca Calhoun, Calallen, Moody, Beeville and Tuloso-Midway. The Bucs return a key group of players, including star defensive tackle Deion Jones, as they begin a new era under McHugh.

“It’s been a lot of fun. We have a lot of guys who love coming out and competing every day. They’re young, but they have experience and have played a lot of plays, and I think that’s important. Being able to take that experience and move it to the next level is going to be a big step for us, especially with a tough preseason schedule.

“Our offensive line has taken a lot of steps over the offseason, and that’s one thing we’ve really focused on, making sure we’re prepared to play. Up front, you don’t win games without them, so it’s been a huge focal point for us, and I think they’ve shown out a lot during camp.”

“It’s amazing getting to teach the younger kids. The seniors taught me how to play football when I came in as a freshman, so being able to teach the younger kids now feels good. I think we can do something special. We’ve got the guys, we’ve got the players. It’s all about how we work.”

“I feel like we should have some competition, but with the players we have now, we feel like we can come out with the wins. We’ve worked hard during the summer, and we just have to stay together, stick with the coaches and listen to them. It’s great being back with my boys. We’ve been playing together our whole lives, and we worked hard during the summer. We just have to stay together, stick with the coaches and listen to them.”
