The Robstown football team continued to rewrite history after defeating Port Isabel 38-28 in the Class 4A Division II bi-district round on Friday at Cotton Picker Stadium.
The breakthrough victory ended a 15-year playoff drought for the Pickers, who improved to 7-4 on the season.
Robstown faced a Port Isabel team that began the night as the District 16-4A Division II champions. But the Pickers, who finished fourth in a competitive District 15-4A Division II, were able to score their most points since Week 2 to secure the win.
It’s been a memorable season for Robstown, which began the season 5-0 for the first time since 1989. The Pickers also made history two seasons ago when they snapped a 12-year playoff drought.
Robstown advances to the area round to play Wimberley, a 59-0 winner against Carrizo Springs.
