The Texas Tech Red Raiders are gearing up for what should be a very exciting year of college football. Last year, they won the Big 12 conference title, going 12-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play to earn a spot in the playoffs.
They have a strong group of running backs headed up by Cameron Dickey. In fact, Dickey has already been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. The award is given to the nation’s most outstanding college running back.
Dickey, a junior from Austin, Texas, rushed for 1,124 yards and 14 touchdowns last season on 209 carries, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He also caught 25 passes for 224 yards and two more touchdowns. He is set to lead a deep running back room that will also feature J’Koby Williams and Quinten Joyner.
The junior running back was a semifinalist for the award last season. He has also earned a spot on the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list. Texas Tech legends Byron Hanspard (1996) and Bam Morris (1993) both won the Doak Walker Award.
